How F1 Recharge works in 2026
How the 2026 cars recover electrical energy under braking, lifting and partial throttle.

Quick answer
Recharge is the recovery of energy into the battery. Cars can harvest under braking and in selected lift or partial-throttle phases, then deploy that stored energy later.
Energy flow
The MGU-K can work in reverse: instead of using electricity to help turn the wheels, it resists the drivetrain and converts kinetic energy into electrical energy for the battery.
Why drivers may lift early
Lifting before the braking point can reduce fuel use and create a harvesting opportunity. The lost time must be balanced against the energy gained for a later attack or defence.
Circuit dependence
Long straights demand sustained deployment while heavy braking zones create recovery opportunities. Energy strategy therefore changes with each track layout.
