How Formula 1 points work
Race and Sprint points decide the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships.

Quick answer
Eligible classified finishers score according to the current FIA tables. A driver's total counts toward the Drivers' Championship; both team cars contribute to the Constructors' Championship.
01
Two championships
Every driver keeps an individual total, while a team combines the eligible points scored by both of its cars at each event.
02
Distance conditions
A stopped race may use a reduced points scale depending on how much competitive running was completed and the applicable resumption rules.
03
Penalties can change totals
Post-race time penalties or disqualifications can alter the classification and therefore the points after the chequered flag.
