F1 camber and toe explained

How wheel angles influence cornering grip, straight-line stability and tyre temperature.

Quick answer

Camber tilts the wheel relative to vertical; toe points paired wheels slightly inward or outward. Teams use both to shape tyre contact and response within Pirelli and FIA limits.

Camber

As the car rolls and the tyre deforms in a corner, negative camber can help the loaded outside tyre present a useful contact patch to the surface.

Toe

Small inward or outward angles change how quickly an axle reacts and how stable it feels. The tyres scrub slightly even in a straight line, creating drag and heat.

The operating limit

Aggressive geometry may produce short-run grip but overload a tyre shoulder. Teams follow supplier prescriptions and inspect wear and temperature across the tread.
