The FIA Right of Review explained
How a competitor can ask stewards to reconsider a decision when qualifying new evidence exists.
Quick answer
A Right of Review asks the stewards to reopen a decision based on a significant and relevant new element that was unavailable when the original ruling was made. It is not simply a second argument over the same evidence.
The first stage
The stewards decide whether the submitted material satisfies the regulatory tests for being new, significant, relevant and previously unavailable.
If the test is met
The matter can proceed to reconsideration with the involved parties heard again. The original decision may stand, change or be rescinded.
Why it is narrow
Sport needs finality. The mechanism allows important evidence to be considered without turning every disagreement into an automatic replay of the hearing.
